Aspire Trade High School’s Carpentry program gives students hands-on experience in the construction industry while building the technical and professional skills needed to pursue a career in the skilled trades.
The program utilizes the NCCER curriculum, providing students with industry-recognized training in foundational construction and carpentry skills. Students learn in a dedicated carpentry lab where they work with professional tools and equipment and apply what they learn through hands-on projects.
Students are introduced to essential areas of carpentry, including construction safety, tools and equipment, measuring and layout, materials, construction techniques, framing, and project planning. Through hands-on learning, students develop the ability to read plans, accurately measure and cut materials, safely use tools, and complete construction projects.
The Carpentry lab was originally supported through a generous sponsorship from Whitlock Builders, a Charlotte-based custom home builder with a long history in the construction industry. Their support helped Aspire establish a dedicated space where students could gain meaningful, hands-on experience in carpentry.
Today, Aspire’s Carpentry program continues to provide students with a strong foundation in construction while developing problem-solving, teamwork, communication, and workplace skills. Students can use this foundation to pursue employment, apprenticeships, further training, or continued education in the construction industry.
Electrical
Aspire Trade High School’s Electrical program provides students with hands-on training and practical experience in one of the essential skilled trades. Students learn in a dedicated lab environment where they develop the technical knowledge, safety practices, and problem-solving skills needed to begin a career in the electrical industry.
The program utilizes the NCCER curriculum, giving students structured, industry-recognized training in foundational electrical concepts and construction skills. Through classroom instruction and hands-on projects, students learn about electrical systems, wiring, circuits, tools and equipment, electrical safety, and industry practices.
Students have opportunities to apply what they learn in the lab while developing the precision, critical thinking, teamwork, and attention to detail required of skilled electricians. As they progress through the program, students build a foundation that can prepare them for entry-level employment, apprenticeships, further training, or continued education.

The program utilizes the NCCER curriculum, providing students with structured, industry-recognized training in foundational HVAC concepts and skills. Students learn about heating and cooling systems, ventilation, tools and equipment, safety practices, system components, troubleshooting, and proper installation and maintenance techniques.

Building Automation & Controls
Aspire Trade High School’s Building Automation & Controls program introduces students to the technology used to make modern buildings more efficient, comfortable, and responsive. Students gain hands-on experience with the systems and controls that help monitor and manage heating, ventilation, air conditioning, lighting, and other building systems.
Students explore how building systems communicate with one another and learn the fundamentals of sensors, controllers, automation, programming, troubleshooting, and system operation. Through hands-on lab experiences, students develop technical and problem-solving skills while working with equipment and technologies used in commercial and industrial environments.

Aspire Trade High School’s Medical Assisting program prepares students for careers in healthcare through a combination of classroom instruction, hands-on training, and real-world clinical experience. Students learn the clinical and administrative skills needed to support patients and healthcare professionals in a variety of medical settings.
Students are introduced to areas such as patient care, vital signs, medical terminology, infection control, healthcare procedures, medical office practices, and professional communication. Hands-on training in Aspire’s biomedical and clinical labs allows students to apply what they learn in a practical healthcare environment.
Aspire is proud to partner with Atrium Health, which supports our Medical Assisting program and helps provide students with opportunities to experience healthcare beyond the classroom. As part of the program, students complete clinical experiences with Atrium Health, allowing them to gain valuable exposure to a professional healthcare setting and work alongside healthcare professionals.
Students also have the opportunity to work toward earning their Medical Assistant (MA) credential, giving them a foundation to pursue employment in healthcare after graduation.
